Welcome back! We are open at our normal hours again - Tuesday to Saturday 09:00 to 17:00.
Please not, however, that in order to control numbers in the practice at any time, all visits for eye tests, dispensing,
and collections are BY APPOINTMENT ONLY, both for your safety and the safety of our staff.
In order to comply with the government guidelines during the pandemic, all our staff where the required PPE, sanitise
their hands, and disinfect surfaces in the consulting room between appointments, as well as cleaning all spectacle frames
tried on by patients in addition to regular deep cleans of the whole practice.
We offer temperature checks and hand sanitisation to patients on arrival, and provide gloves and masks where necessary.
At Bannister Eyecare, we are passionate about delivering the best possible care to all of our patients. Our staff help to create a relaxed and friendly environment. We pride ourselves on the personal touch and always go above and beyond to ensure your satisfaction and comfort.
We can meet all of your optical needs both private and on the NHS, and we offer a range of spectacle frames to suit all budgets as well as contact lenses and accessories.
Below is a comprehensive list of the services offered by our staff at Bannister Eyecare. Please feel free to click on the headings to read the descriptions and get in touch if you have any questions or would like to book an appointment!
When you attend your eye examination, you will be given expert advice regarding the condition of your eyes.
Regular examinations are essential to check the health of your eyes, and can detect conditions including diabetes,
glaucoma, macular degeneratiion and cataracts, as well as many other eye and general health problems.
Should anything unusual be discovered in your examination, our Optometrists will discuss their findings with you, and recommend the best course of action and steps to take going forward.
Our Optometrists carry out very thorough examinations with the optional addition of retinal photography, which is included in all private tests and can be performed during an NHS test for a nominal fee.
New enhanced test:
In June 2021, we installed an Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) scanning unit; this offers a non-invasive imaging test using light
to take a cross-section or 3D pictures of your retina. These images allow the optometrist to see each of the 10 distinctive
layers of the retina in detail, mapping their thickness and highlighting any signs of early onset conditions such as glaucoma,
age-related macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy.
OCT scan images are of hospital quality and are recommended with every eye test for anyone over the age of 25 who would like
to know more about their eye health, or for those with a family history of eye disease. There is an additional charge for
these scans as they are not covered by the NHS. If you're interested, please ask for more information when you
contact the practice.
All of our dispensing is carried out by experienced and fully qualified members of the Association of British Dispensing Opticians (ABDO). We will discuss your requirements and help you find the best fitting and best looking frames from our extensive stock which includes pieces from Calvin Klein, Lacoste, Flexon, Salvatore Ferragamo, Caroline Herrera and more.
Your prescription will be calculated to give you the best clarity of vision and we will recommend the thinnest and lightest lens possible in order to give you the best possible experience with your glasses. Our lenses are manufactured by Rodenstock and Carl Zeiss, both of which are world renowned companies.
Contact Lenses offer a versatile addition to glasses and can provide a practical enhancement during sporting activities or for special occasions, where you don't want to wear your spectacle frame.
At a contact lens consultation, the Optometrist will carry out a detailed examination of your eyes, assessing their shape and size in order to determine the best fitting lens for you to use as well as the most suitable aftercare package.
We supply a variety of contact lenses from daily disposables to more complex rigid and multifocal lenses.
For first time wearers, our staff will teach you how to insert & remove your lenses, and will provide you with a series of trial lenses before your final set are dispensed.
It's vitally important to note that contact lenses should not be regarded as the sole source of visual correction. You must always have a pair of glasses available in order to rest your eyes periodically, and you will need regular contact lens checks in addition to eye examinations to ensure the best fit of the lenses and condition of your eyes.
Sunglasses aren't just a fashion accessory - it's important to protect your eyes from the damaging effect of UV rays with the most appropriate lens.
We stock a range of sunglasses including Mauii Jim, with photochromic or polarised lenses, many of which are suitable for prescription lenses.
We also have a wide range of accessories available, including spectacle cords, lens cloths, cleaning sprays and more.
